Job Description

We are seeking a talented and dedicated Commercial Baker / Pastry Chef to join our passionate team in San Jose, CA. This role is essential for creating our signature cakes, cookies, and desserts, ensuring every item meets our high standards of quality and taste. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of commercial baking techniques, a creative flair for pastry, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and bake a wide variety of cakes, cupcakes, cookies, pies, and other pastry items according to SusieCakes' recipes and quality standards.
  • Manage inventory of baking ingredients and supplies, ensuring proper storage and rotation.
  • Operate and maintain commercial baking equipment, including ovens, mixers, and proofers.
  • Decorate pastries and cakes with precision and artistic flair, adhering to aesthetic guidelines.
  • Ensure all food safety and sanitation standards are consistently met and exceeded.
  • Collaborate with kitchen staff to coordinate production schedules and ensure timely delivery of baked goods.
  • Monitor product quality, freshness, and presentation throughout the day.
  • Assist in new product development and recipe refinement as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Train and mentor junior baking staff as required.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Commercial Baker or Pastry Chef in a high-volume setting.
  • Strong knowledge of baking principles, techniques, and pastry artistry.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail and a passion for creating high-quality baked goods.
  • Understanding of food safety regulations and hygiene standards.
  • Ability to lift heavy ingredients and stand for extended periods.
  • Basic math skills for recipe scaling and ingredient measurement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Culinary degree or certification in baking and pastry arts.
  • Experience with large-scale production baking.
  • Familiarity with various decorating techniques (e.g., fondant, intricate piping, sugar work).
  • Fluency in Spanish or other languages.
