Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Dairy Farm Herd Manager to oversee the health, welfare, and productivity of our dairy herd. This vital role involves daily management of milking operations, breeding programs, feed management, and staff supervision. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in dairy farming and a passion for animal care and operational efficiency. We are open to supporting the skilled worker route for qualified international candidates who meet our experience and skill requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily milking parlor operations, ensuring efficiency and adherence to quality standards.
- Implement and monitor herd health programs, including disease prevention, treatment protocols, and veterinary liaison.
- Oversee breeding programs, including heat detection, AI, and calving management.
- Develop and execute feeding strategies to optimize herd nutrition and milk production.
- Supervise and train farm staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Maintain accurate records of herd health, production, breeding, and inventory.
- Ensure compliance with all animal welfare regulations, safety standards, and environmental guidelines.
- Perform routine maintenance on farm equipment and facilities, and coordinate repairs as needed.
- Collaborate with farm management to achieve production targets and implement best practices.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in dairy herd management.
- Proven knowledge of dairy cow health, nutrition, and reproduction.
- Experience with modern milking systems and dairy farm equipment.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
- Excellent observational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and use farm management software.
- Proficiency in English (written and verbal communication).
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Dairy Science, or a related field.
- Certification in AI or herd health management.
- Experience with specific dairy farm management software (e.g., DairyComp, PCDart).
- Basic mechanical skills for equipment troubleshooting and minor repairs.
- Experience training and developing farm staff.
