Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Dangerous Goods Lead to join our dynamic team in Port Lincoln. This pivotal role involves overseeing all aspects of dangerous goods management within our port operations, ensuring compliance with local, national, and international regulations. The successful candidate will be instrumental in fostering a strong safety culture, mitigating risks associated with hazardous materials, and driving operational excellence. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain dangerous goods management systems and procedures in accordance with relevant legislation (e.g., IMDG Code, ADG Code).
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on the classification, packaging, labeling, documentation, storage, and handling of dangerous goods.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits of dangerous goods handling activities to ensure compliance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Lead incident investigations related to dangerous goods, implement corrective actions, and prepare detailed reports.
  • Deliver comprehensive training programs to port staff on dangerous goods awareness, handling, and emergency procedures.
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities, emergency services, and internal stakeholders on dangerous goods matters.
  • Manage all dangerous goods documentation, permits, and declarations.
  • Stay abreast of changes in dangerous goods regulations and industry best practices.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in dangerous goods management, preferably within the maritime, logistics, or chemical industries.
  • Thorough knowledge of Australian Dangerous Goods (ADG) Code and International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement safety management systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in incident investigation and reporting.
  • Current driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in safety, environmental science, logistics, or a related field.
  • Certifications in dangerous goods handling, safety management, or hazmat response.
  • Experience with port operations or bulk handling facilities.
  • Familiarity with ISO management systems.
