Job Description
Join abrdn as a Data Privacy Officer, a critical role ensuring our compliance with global data protection regulations, including GDPR and CCPA. We are looking for a dedicated and knowledgeable professional to lead our data privacy initiatives, provide expert guidance, and champion a culture of privacy across the organization. This position offers visa sponsorship for qualified international candidates eager to contribute to a leading financial services firm in a dynamic, hybrid work environment based in Galashiels. You will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring our data protection strategy and related policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for data privacy matters within the organization.
- Monitor compliance with GDPR, CCPA, and other applicable data protection laws and internal policies.
- Advise on data protection impact assessments (DPIAs) and provide expert guidance on data processing activities.
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive data privacy policies and procedures.
- Conduct internal audits to ensure ongoing compliance and identify areas for improvement.
- Provide training and awareness programs to employees on data protection principles and best practices.
- Manage and respond to data subject access requests (DSARs) and other privacy-related inquiries.
- Act as a liaison with data protection authorities and oversee any data breach notifications.
- Stay abreast of changes in data protection laws and regulatory guidance and update policies accordingly.
- Collaborate with legal, IT, and business teams to embed privacy-by-design principles in new projects and systems.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Data Privacy Officer, Privacy Counsel, or similar role (minimum 4 years).
- In-depth knowledge of GDPR and CCPA, with practical experience in their application.
- Strong understanding of information security principles and data protection best practices.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to translate complex legal and regulatory requirements into actionable business advice.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- CIPP/E, CIPP/US, CIPM, or similar data privacy certifications.
- Experience within the financial services industry.
- Proficiency in privacy management software and tools.
- Experience with international data transfers and associated compliance mechanisms.
- Degree in Law, Information Technology, or a related field.
