Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Diesel Fitter to join our Fly-in/Fly-out (FIFO) team, specializing in heavy earthmoving equipment. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of a diverse range of Caterpillar machinery operating on various mine sites across Queensland. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance, servicing, and inspections on a wide range of Caterpillar earthmoving equipment (e.g., excavators, dozers, loaders, trucks).
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults using specialized diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Execute complex repairs, rebuilds, and component replacements in adherence to manufacturer specifications and company safety standards.
  • Conduct pre-start checks and post-repair testing to ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate service records and document all work performed using digital systems.
  • Adhere strictly to all site safety procedures, company policies, and environmental regulations.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, and site personnel to ensure efficient job completion.
  • Identify and report potential hazards or safety concerns in the workplace.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development programs to enhance technical skills and knowledge.

Required Skills

  • Australian recognised Heavy Vehicle Mechanical Trade Qualification (e.g., Certificate III in Mobile Plant Technology).
  • Minimum of 3 years post-trade experience working on heavy earthmoving equipment, preferably Caterpillar machinery.
  • Demonstrated experience in diagnosing and repairing complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting schematics and technical manuals.
  • Strong commitment to safety and an understanding of Lock Out/Tag Out procedures.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team in remote, challenging environments.
  • Current Australian Driver's License (Manual).
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous FIFO experience in the mining or heavy construction sector.
  • High Risk Work Licenses (e.g., Forklift, EWP).
  • Confined Space and Working at Heights training.
  • Advanced diagnostic software proficiency (e.g., CAT ET, SIS).
  • HR (Heavy Rigid) Class Driver's License.
