Job Description
Join Uniting Communities as a compassionate Elderly Companion, providing vital support and companionship to seniors in the Mount Gambier area. This part-time role on a day roster involves assisting with daily activities, engaging in social interaction, and ensuring the comfort and well-being of our clients. You will play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for elderly individuals, helping them to maintain independence and connection within their homes and communities. We seek individuals with a genuine desire to help others, strong interpersonal skills, and a commitment to respectful care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide companionship and engage clients in meaningful conversations and activities.
- Assist with light household tasks, meal preparation, and grocery shopping as needed.
- Support clients with personal errands and appointments.
- Monitor and report any changes in client health or well-being to the appropriate supervisor.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for clients.
- Adhere to care plans and Uniting Communities' policies and procedures.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated empathy, patience, and a caring nature.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reliability and punctuality.
- Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload.
- Current Australian Driver's License and reliable transportation.
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing, Home and Community Care) or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a caregiving or support role, particularly with elderly individuals.
- Understanding of the aged care sector and client-centred care principles.
