Job Description

Are you passionate about bikes and eager to learn a trade? Bluebikes is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Bicycle Fleet Mechanic Trainee to join our team in Cambridge, MA. This entry-level position is perfect for individuals with little to no prior professional bike mechanic experience, but who possess a strong mechanical aptitude and a desire to work with their hands. You will receive comprehensive training on all aspects of bicycle assembly, maintenance, and repair, focusing on ensuring our rental fleet is safe and ready for public use. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform initial assembly of new Bluebikes according to manufacturer specifications and company standards.
  • Conduct quality control checks on newly assembled bikes to ensure safety and functionality.
  • Assist experienced mechanics with routine maintenance and minor repairs on existing fleet bicycles.
  • Learn and apply best practices for bicycle component installation, adjustment, and troubleshooting.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace within the assembly and maintenance facility.
  • Accurately document work performed and parts used.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and company guidelines during assembly and maintenance tasks.
  • Collaborate with team members to optimize workflow and contribute to fleet readiness goals.

Required Skills

  • No prior professional bike mechanic experience required; full training will be provided.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort using basic hand tools.
  • Eagerness to learn and develop new technical skills.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and work methodically.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to quality and safety.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
  • Basic communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Personal interest in bicycles or cycling.
  • Previous experience with tools through hobbies, DIY projects, or other entry-level mechanical roles.
  • A desire to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
