Job Description
Calgary Language Academy is seeking passionate and dedicated English as a Second Language (ESL) Teachers to join our vibrant team in Calgary. This is a unique opportunity for qualified individuals looking to make a significant impact on students’ language proficiency and cultural understanding. We are committed to supporting our international educators, and Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) or Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) will be available for eligible candidates to ensure a smooth transition to working in Canada. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering engaging and effective English lessons to adult learners across various proficiency levels, from beginner to advanced. You will utilize modern teaching methodologies, create dynamic lesson plans tailored to student needs, and assess student progress to ensure a high standard of education. Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging ESL lessons to adult learners across all proficiency levels.
- Develop and adapt teaching materials and curricula to meet the specific needs of diverse student groups.
- Assess student progress regularly through tests, assignments, and active class participation, providing timely and constructive feedback.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student attendance, performance, and grades.
- Participate actively in professional development workshops, staff meetings, and collaborative curriculum planning sessions.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and communicative classroom environment that encourages student engagement and cultural exchange.
- Collaborate with colleagues and administration on educational initiatives, school events, and student support strategies.
- Adhere to all school policies and procedures, including those related to student welfare and academic integrity.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in English, Education, Linguistics, or a closely related field.
- Recognized TESOL, TEFL, CELTA, or equivalent certification.
- Minimum of 1 year of demonstrable experience teaching ESL to adult learners.
- Excellent command of the English language, exhibiting native or near-native proficiency.
- Strong classroom management skills and effective verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proven ability to adapt teaching methods and materials to suit various learning styles and proficiency levels.
- Proficiency in utilizing educational technology, including smartboards, online learning platforms, and presentation software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in TESOL or Applied Linguistics.
- Prior experience living or working internationally, demonstrating cross-cultural adaptability.
- Fluency or working knowledge of additional languages.
- Familiarity with the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) and experience incorporating them into curriculum design and assessment.
- Experience with blended learning or online teaching methodologies.
