Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Compliance Lead to join our dynamic team in Parramatta. This critical role will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring environmental compliance across our diverse portfolio of mining and civil infrastructure projects. You will lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of environmental management systems, working closely with project teams, regulatory bodies, and stakeholders to achieve project objectives while adhering to all relevant environmental legislation and best practices. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in Australian environmental regulations, particularly within the mining and civil sectors, and demonstrate a proactive approach to environmental risk management and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Environmental Management Systems (EMS) for mining and civil projects.
  • Ensure all project activities comply with relevant Australian environmental legislation, regulations, licenses, and company policies.
  • Conduct environmental risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Manage environmental monitoring programs, including data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Prepare and submit environmental reports to regulatory authorities and internal stakeholders.
  • Provide expert environmental advice and support to project managers and site teams.
  • Liaise effectively with regulatory bodies, clients, and other stakeholders on environmental matters.
  • Oversee environmental auditing, inspections, and corrective action processes.
  • Contribute to the development of tender proposals and project bids, providing environmental input.
  • Mentor and support junior environmental staff.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in environmental compliance and management within the mining or civil construction industry.
  • Strong understanding of Australian environmental legislation and regulatory frameworks (e.g., EPBC Act, NSW EPA requirements).
  • Experience in developing and implementing Environmental Management Systems (EMS) to ISO 14001 standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct environmental risk assessments and develop mitigation plans.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and stakeholder engagement.
  • Proficiency in environmental data analysis and reporting tools.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Certification in Environmental Auditing (e.g., Exemplar Global).
  • Experience with GIS and environmental modelling software.
  • Knowledge of Aboriginal cultural heritage management requirements.
