Job Description
Are you looking for an exciting entry-level opportunity to start a career in public service and environmental management? The Joliet Municipal Services Department is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Trainee Waste Management Supervisor to join our dedicated team. This is a unique chance to gain hands-on experience and receive comprehensive training in waste operations, team leadership, and regulatory compliance. No prior experience is required – we provide all the necessary tools and knowledge for you to succeed. You will work alongside experienced professionals, learning the intricacies of waste collection, processing, and disposal, while contributing to the overall cleanliness and sustainability of our beautiful city.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in a structured training program covering all aspects of waste management operations.
- Shadow experienced supervisors to learn about routing, scheduling, and staff supervision.
- Assist in monitoring waste collection activities to ensure efficiency and compliance with safety standards.
- Learn to identify and address operational issues and service disruptions.
- Support the maintenance of accurate records related to waste volumes, incidents, and equipment.
- Communicate effectively with team members, residents, and other departmental staff.
- Adhere to all local, state, and federal waste management regulations and safety protocols.
- Contribute to the implementation of recycling and sustainability initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned during the training period.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong work ethic and eagerness to learn.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team environment.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (or ability to obtain within training period).
