Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and physically fit Equine Stable Hand / Mucker to join our team in Chula Vista. This role requires an individual who is not afraid of hard physical labor, can consistently meet early morning start times, and has a strong work ethic. You will be responsible for the daily care and maintenance of horse stables, ensuring a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for our horses. This is a demanding position that offers a chance to work closely with horses in a beautiful outdoor setting. Training will be provided for specific stable protocols, but a general understanding of animal care or prior experience in a physically demanding role is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily mucking and stall cleaning with efficiency and attention to detail.
  • Replenish fresh bedding, feed, and water for horses according to established schedules and dietary requirements.
  • Monitor horses for any signs of illness, injury, or distress and report findings to management immediately.
  • Clean and maintain barn aisles, feed rooms, tack rooms, and other common areas.
  • Assist with turnout and bringing in horses from pastures.
  • Organize and maintain stable equipment and supplies.
  • Perform general grounds keeping duties around the barn as needed.
  • Follow all safety protocols and guidelines for working with horses and equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with other stable staff and management.

Required Skills

  • Ability to perform strenuous physical labor consistently (lifting heavy loads, bending, standing for long periods).
  • Reliable transportation and ability to arrive for early morning shifts.
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Comfortable working around horses and other animals.
  • Basic understanding of animal welfare and care.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working in an equestrian facility or with large animals.
  • Experience in general labor or farm work.
  • Knowledge of horse behavior and handling.
  • Ability to operate basic farm equipment (e.g., wheelbarrows, Gators).
