Job Description

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to be at the heart of live events in a world-famous cultural institution? The Royal Shakespeare Company is seeking enthusiastic and reliable Event Stewards / Ushers to join our team for weekend work. No prior experience is required – we provide comprehensive training to ensure you feel confident and capable in your role. This is a fantastic chance to gain valuable experience in customer service, events management, and to contribute to the magic of theatre. You’ll play a crucial role in ensuring the safety, comfort, and enjoyment of our visitors, helping to create memorable experiences in a vibrant and dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Warmly welcome and assist all theatregoers and visitors upon arrival.
  • Efficiently check tickets and guide patrons to their seats.
  • Provide clear information and directions regarding facilities, exits, and amenities.
  • Ensure the safety and security of all audience members and staff during performances and events.
  • Assist with emergency procedures, including evacuations, as required.
  • Maintain a professional and friendly demeanor, offering excellent customer service at all times.
  • Monitor theatre areas for cleanliness and report any issues to management.
  • Manage queues and crowd flow effectively.
  • Uphold venue policies and procedures to ensure a pleasant and safe environment for everyone.

Required Skills

  • Excellent verbal communication skills and a friendly, approachable manner.
  • A positive attitude and a strong desire to help others.
  • Reliability and punctuality, especially for weekend shifts.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Comfortable standing for extended periods and navigating stairs.
  • A willingness to learn and adapt to new procedures (full training provided).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a customer service role (not essential, but a plus).
  • Basic knowledge of first aid (certification not required, but beneficial).
  • An interest in theatre, arts, or cultural events.
