Job Description
Join Durham County Council as a Public Beaches Maintenance Worker for early morning shifts in Seaham! This vital role ensures our beautiful public beaches are clean, safe, and welcoming for residents and visitors from dawn. If you’re an early riser, enjoy working outdoors, and are committed to maintaining public spaces, this could be the perfect opportunity for you. Full training will be provided, so no prior experience in beach maintenance is necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily litter picking and removal of waste from designated beach areas and promenades.
- Empty and clean public waste bins, ensuring they are ready for daily use.
- Undertake general beach tidying, including raking sand and removing natural debris like seaweed.
- Inspect beach areas for potential hazards and report any issues promptly to supervisors.
- Operate and maintain basic cleaning equipment safely and efficiently.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety guidelines and environmental regulations.
- Interact respectfully and professionally with early morning beach users and the public.
Required Skills
- Reliability and punctuality, particularly for early morning starts.
- Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual tasks, including lifting and carrying.
- A proactive attitude and ability to work effectively without constant supervision.
- A basic understanding of health and safety principles.

- Right to work in the UK.
Preferred Qualifications
