Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Butcher / Meat Cutter to join our dedicated team in Chichester. This is an excellent opportunity for a professional who is passionate about quality meats and dedicated to precision and hygiene. This role is open to candidates who require sponsorship via the Skilled Worker Visa route, and we are committed to supporting eligible applicants through this process. You will be responsible for preparing a wide variety of meat products, ensuring the highest standards of food safety and presentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform skilled butchery tasks, including cutting, trimming, deboning, and portioning various cuts of meat (beef, lamb, pork, poultry).
- Operate and maintain butchery equipment safely and efficiently.
- Ensure high standards of hygiene and cleanliness in all work areas, adhering to food safety regulations.
- Assist customers with their meat selections, offering advice on cuts, cooking methods, and preparation.
- Manage inventory, including receiving and storing meat products appropriately.
- Minimize waste and optimize meat yield.
- Prepare special orders and bespoke cuts as requested by customers or management.
- Maintain an attractive and well-stocked display counter.
- Adhere to all health and safety guidelines and company policies.
- Collaborate effectively with team members to ensure smooth operations.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Butcher or Meat Cutter.
- In-depth knowledge of various meat cuts, types, and their preparation.
- Proficiency in using butchery tools and equipment (knives, saws, grinders) safely.
- Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene regulations (HACCP, FSA standards).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Physical stamina to stand for long periods and lift heavy items.
- Eligibility for the UK Skilled Worker Visa route.
Preferred Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Meat and Poultry Processing or equivalent qualification.
- Experience in a retail butchery environment.
- Knowledge of sustainable and ethical sourcing practices.
- First Aid certification.
