Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Field Service Technician specializing in heavy machinery to join our Toowoomba team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a diverse fleet of Caterpillar heavy equipment on-site at various customer locations. This position requires a strong technical aptitude, a commitment to safety, and excellent problem-solving skills to ensure optimal machine performance and customer satisfaction. You will work independently and as part of a dedicated team, responding to service calls, performing scheduled maintenance, and executing complex repairs, all while adhering to the highest industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on heavy machinery.
- Perform preventative maintenance, routine servicing, and major repairs on Caterpillar equipment in the field.
- Conduct comprehensive inspections and prepare detailed service reports.
- Utilize diagnostic tools and software to identify faults and ensure accurate repairs.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies while working on customer sites.
- Provide exceptional customer service, communicating effectively regarding repair status and technical advice.
- Order and manage parts inventory for service calls.
- Continuously update knowledge on new equipment models and service procedures.
Required Skills
- Trade qualification as a Heavy Vehicle Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic, or equivalent.
- Proven experience in diagnosing and repairing heavy earthmoving or mining equipment.
- Strong understanding of hydraulic and electrical systems in heavy machinery.
- Valid Australian Driver's License (HR preferred).
- Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a field service environment.
- Commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Caterpillar equipment and diagnostic tools (e.g., ET, SIS).
- Forklift license and EWP (Elevated Work Platform) ticket.
- Prior experience in a field service role.
- Strong computer literacy for reporting and diagnostics.
- First Aid certification.
