Job Description

We are seeking highly motivated and resilient individuals to join our critical communications team as Fire Communications Officers. This immediate hire role is central to our emergency response operations, where you will be responsible for receiving emergency calls, dispatching resources, and providing crucial support to fire and rescue crews in the field. This is a high-pressure environment requiring excellent decision-making skills, the ability to multitask effectively, and a commitment to public safety. Full training will be provided to ensure you are equipped to handle the demands of this vital role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive and accurately process emergency calls (000 calls) related to fire, rescue, and other emergencies.
  • Prioritise and dispatch appropriate fire and rescue resources to incidents across Queensland.
  • Maintain clear and concise radio communications with operational crews in the field.
  • Monitor incident progress and provide ongoing support, information, and coordination to responding units.
  • Log all incident details, resource movements, and communications accurately in dispatch systems.
  • Provide pre-arrival instructions to callers in life-threatening situations.
  • Operate and monitor various communications equipment, including CAD (Computer-Aided Dispatch) systems, radio consoles, and mapping tools.
  • Liaise with other emergency services and support agencies as required.
  • Adhere to standard operating procedures and emergency protocols.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm and focused in high-stress, emergency situations.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities under pressure.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications and data entry.
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple incoming calls and radio transmissions simultaneously.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work collaboratively.
  • Availability to work a rotating shift roster, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Australian citizenship or permanent residency.
  • Current Driver's Licence.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in an emergency services communication centre or call centre environment.
  • Knowledge of the Gold Coast region's geography and road network.
  • Familiarity with emergency services terminology and protocols.
  • Certificates in relevant fields such as Public Safety (Emergency Communications).
