Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and calm individual to join our critical response team as a Fire Communications Officer. This is an immediate hire opportunity for a role vital to public safety, operating within a high-pressure, fast-paced environment. As a Fire Communications Officer, you will be the primary point of contact for emergency calls related to fires and other critical incidents, dispatching resources, providing vital information, and coordinating with various emergency service agencies. Your ability to think quickly, communicate clearly, and maintain composure under stressful conditions will be paramount to success in this essential role.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and accurately process incoming emergency calls related to fires, hazardous materials, and other critical incidents.
- Prioritise and dispatch appropriate fire and emergency service units and resources.
- Provide clear and concise instructions and information to callers and field units.
- Monitor emergency channels and track the status of incidents and resources.
- Liaise effectively with other emergency services, government agencies, and stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate records and logs of all communications and incidents.
- Operate and troubleshoot advanced communication systems and technologies.
- Adhere to all operational procedures, policies, and safety protocols.
Required Skills
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
- Strong active listening and problem-solving abilities.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications and data entry.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, critical response environment.
- Availability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in an emergency services dispatch or call centre role.
- Knowledge of emergency management principles and practices.
- Familiarity with Victorian geography and street nomenclature.
- Relevant certifications in emergency communications or public safety.
- A current First Aid and CPR certificate.
