Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Fleet Maintenance Engineer to join our team in Huntsville, Alabama. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and operational efficiency of our diverse vehicle fleet. This includes developing and implementing maintenance programs, managing service schedules, optimizing fleet performance, and ensuring compliance with all safety and regulatory standards. You will utilize your expertise to minimize downtime, extend asset life, and manage maintenance budgets effectively. This position requires strong technical acumen, excellent leadership skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive preventative maintenance programs for the fleet.
  • Oversee the scheduling and execution of all vehicle repairs, inspections, and servicing.
  • Diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Manage maintenance budgets, track expenses, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Ensure all fleet maintenance activities comply with company policies, industry regulations, and safety standards.
  • Lead and mentor a team of maintenance technicians, providing technical guidance and support.
  • Evaluate new technologies and best practices to improve fleet efficiency and reliability.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and inventory.
  • Collaborate with operations and logistics teams to optimize vehicle utilization and availability.
  • Negotiate with vendors for parts, services, and equipment, ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in fleet maintenance, heavy equipment maintenance, or automotive engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle systems, including engines, transmissions, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Proficiency in diagnostic tools and software for vehicle troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage maintenance schedules, budgets, and inventory.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead a team.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Professional certification (e.g., ASE Master Mechanic, Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional – CMRP).
  • Experience with fleet management software (e.g., Fleetio, GPS Insight).
  • Experience with diverse fleet types, including heavy-duty trucks, specialty vehicles, or government/defense assets.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and other relevant industry standards.
  • Experience working in a government contracting or defense environment.
