Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Fleet Operations Manager to join our growing team in Sydney, Nova Scotia. This critical role is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our diverse fleet, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and safety across all transportation activities. The ideal candidate will be a proactive leader with a proven track record in fleet management, capable of optimizing routes, managing maintenance schedules, and leading a team of drivers and support staff. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee all daily fleet operations, including dispatch, routing, scheduling, and driver assignments.
- Develop and implement robust maintenance programs to ensure fleet reliability and longevity, minimizing downtime.
- Ensure strict compliance with all local, provincial, and federal transportation regulations, including Hours of Service (HOS), safety standards, and environmental requirements.
- Monitor and analyze fleet performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
- Manage fleet budget, control operational costs, and optimize resource allocation.
- Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate fleet personnel, fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee vehicle acquisition and disposal processes, ensuring alignment with company needs and budget.
- Implement and manage fleet management software and GPS tracking systems to enhance operational visibility and efficiency.
- Investigate and report on incidents, accidents, and violations, implementing preventative measures.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in fleet management or logistics operations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of transportation laws and regulations (e.g., HOS, NSC, TDG).
- Proficiency in fleet management software, GPS tracking systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities, with experience in supervising a diverse workforce.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Professional certification in fleet management (e.g., Certified Transportation Manager).
- Experience with budget management and cost control in a transportation setting.
- Familiarity with local Nova Scotia transportation network and conditions.
- Bilingualism (English and French) is considered an asset.
