Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Fleet Operations Manager to join our team in Southampton. This pivotal role involves overseeing all aspects of our fleet operations, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and strategic growth. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing vehicle maintenance, optimizing routes, ensuring regulatory adherence, and leading a dedicated team of operational staff. Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the company's vehicle fleet, including scheduling, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all national and international transport regulations, including driver hours and tachograph laws.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of drivers and operational support staff, fostering a culture of safety and high performance.
  • Optimize fleet utilization, routing, and scheduling to maximize efficiency and minimize operational costs.
  • Monitor fleet performance metrics, analyze data, and implement strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Manage relationships with third-party service providers, including maintenance garages and fuel suppliers.
  • Implement and enforce health and safety protocols for all fleet-related activities, ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Manage fleet budgeting, cost control, and procurement of new vehicles or equipment.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years) in fleet management, logistics operations, or a related supervisory role.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in fleet management software, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • In-depth knowledge of UK transport legislation, health and safety regulations, and vehicle maintenance best practices.
  • Valid UK driving license (HGV license desirable).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) National or International.
  • Experience with telematics systems and advanced route optimization software.
  • Knowledge of HGV maintenance schedules and compliance.
