Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Foundry Worker to join our dynamic team in Shepparton. The successful candidate will be responsible for various stages of the metal casting process, from mold preparation and furnace operation to pouring, finishing, and quality inspection. This role requires a strong understanding of metallurgy, adherence to strict safety protocols, and a commitment to producing high-quality castings. You will work within a collaborative environment, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and maintaining our high standards of operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor induction and arc furnaces for melting various metals and alloys.
- Prepare molds and cores using sand, resin, and other foundry materials.
- Perform metal pouring operations safely and efficiently, adhering to strict temperature and material specifications.
- Execute shakeout, cleaning, and finishing of castings, including grinding and fettling.
- Conduct visual and dimensional inspections of castings to ensure quality standards are met.
- Maintain and troubleshoot foundry equipment, ensuring optimal performance and reporting defects.
- Adhere to all safety regulations, including wearing appropriate PPE and following lockout/tagout procedures.
- Assist with inventory management of raw materials and finished goods.
- Contribute to a clean and organized work environment.
- Participate in ongoing training and development programs.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Foundry Worker or similar role in an industrial setting (minimum 3 years).
- Strong knowledge of metal casting processes, including sand casting, mold making, and core making.
- Proficiency in operating various foundry equipment, including furnaces, grinders, and material handling machinery.
- Understanding of metallurgy and different metal properties (e.g., cast iron, steel, non-ferrous alloys).
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Strong adherence to safety protocols and procedures.
- Physical stamina and the ability to perform strenuous tasks in a demanding environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Trade qualification in Foundry Operations, Engineering, or a related field.
- Forklift operator license.
- Experience with overhead crane operation.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
- First Aid certification.
