Job Description
Warrnambool College is seeking a diligent and reliable General Hand to join our facilities team on a part-time day roster. This entry-level role is perfect for an individual who is keen to contribute to the upkeep and presentation of our school grounds and buildings. No prior experience is required, as full training will be provided. You will play a crucial role in ensuring our school environment remains tidy, functional, and safe for students and staff. This position offers a stable work environment with consistent hours, ideal for someone looking for a flexible yet impactful role within a supportive community.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general cleaning duties of school buildings, including classrooms, offices, and common areas.
- Assist with basic grounds maintenance, such as litter removal, sweeping pathways, and minor gardening tasks.
- Undertake minor repairs and maintenance tasks, including replacing light globes, fixing loose fixtures, and ensuring operational functionality.
- Support the setup and pack-down of equipment for school events and activities.
- Report any major maintenance issues or safety hazards to the Facilities Manager.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of storage areas and equipment.
- Adhere to all school policies and safety procedures.
Required Skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to tasks.
- Reliable and punctual with a good work ethic.
- Basic understanding of safety protocols or willingness to learn.
- Physical fitness to perform manual tasks, including lifting and standing for extended periods.
- Excellent communication skills.
- A valid Working With Children Check (or willingness to obtain one).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a general hand, cleaning, or maintenance role (not essential, but beneficial).
- Basic knowledge of tools and equipment used in maintenance.
- First Aid certification.
