Job Description
Stantec is seeking a motivated and physically fit Geothermal Drilling Assistant (Mate) to join our dynamic team in Vancouver. This is a hands-on, full-time manual labor position offering excellent pay and the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge renewable energy projects. As a Drilling Assistant, you will work closely with drillers and field supervisors, supporting all aspects of geothermal drilling operations. Your role will be critical in ensuring safe, efficient, and productive field activities. This position requires a strong work ethic, a commitment to safety, and the ability to thrive in outdoor, demanding environments. Full training will be provided on specific geothermal drilling techniques and equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist drillers with the setup, operation, and maintenance of drilling rigs and equipment.
- Handle and prepare drilling tools, pipes, and other materials.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment and work areas.
- Monitor drilling operations and report any issues or anomalies to the driller.
- Ensure strict adherence to all safety protocols and site-specific procedures.
- Manage drilling fluid/mud mixing and circulation as directed.
- Load and unload supplies and equipment from vehicles.
- Participate in site preparation and demobilization activities.
- Maintain accurate daily logs and records of drilling activities.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform strenuous manual labor for extended periods.
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to all safety regulations.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Valid Class 5 British Columbia Driver's License (or equivalent) with a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in construction, mining, oil & gas, or other heavy industrial environments.
- Knowledge of basic mechanical principles or experience with heavy equipment.
- First Aid certification.
- H2S Alive certification.
- WHMIS certification.
- Forklift operator certification.
