Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Junior GIS Officer to join our dynamic team. This entry-level role is perfect for someone passionate about geospatial technology and keen to kickstart their career in local government. You will play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing the Council’s spatial data, supporting various departments with accurate mapping and data analysis. Full training will be provided to ensure your success and development within the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the accurate capture, input, and maintenance of spatial data across various Council assets and services.
- Support the creation and update of digital maps for internal use and public information.
- Perform basic spatial analysis to support planning, engineering, and environmental projects.
- Maintain data integrity and quality control procedures for the Council's GIS database.
- Provide GIS support to other Council departments as required, including data extraction and report generation.
- Contribute to the documentation of GIS processes and procedures.
- Participate in field data collection activities when necessary.
- Engage in continuous learning and professional development related to GIS technologies and best practices.
Required Skills
- Basic understanding of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) principles and concepts.
- Familiarity with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) through academic study or personal projects.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data handling.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new software and processes quickly.
- A passion for maps, data, and problem-solving.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- A diploma or certificate in GIS, Surveying, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, or a related discipline.
- Previous exposure to local government operations or asset management.
