Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Greenhouse Climate Controller to join our research team in Townsville. In this vital role, you will be responsible for the precise management and optimization of environmental conditions within our advanced greenhouse facilities. Your expertise will directly support critical plant research by ensuring optimal growing conditions for various experimental crops. This includes monitoring and adjusting temperature, humidity, light, CO2 levels, and irrigation systems to meet specific scientific protocols. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of horticultural practices and environmental control technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain greenhouse environmental control systems (e.g., HVAC, lighting, irrigation) to ensure optimal conditions for plant growth and research protocols.
  • Perform regular checks and calibration of sensors and equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Analyze environmental data and make proactive adjustments to climate settings as required.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve minor technical issues with greenhouse control equipment.
  • Implement and adhere to strict experimental protocols for various plant studies.
  • Maintain detailed records of environmental parameters, plant responses, and system adjustments.
  • Collaborate with researchers and horticulturists to understand specific plant requirements and adjust environmental strategies accordingly.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and operational procedures within the greenhouse facility.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of greenhouse operations and environmental control strategies.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience with greenhouse environmental control systems and software.
  • Strong understanding of plant physiology and horticultural best practices.
  • Ability to interpret environmental data and make informed decisions.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting equipment.
  • Proficiency in record-keeping and data management.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Horticulture, Agricultural Science, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Experience with specific greenhouse control software platforms (e.g., Priva, Argus).
  • Knowledge of integrated pest management (IPM) strategies in controlled environments.
  • Basic electrical or mechanical maintenance skills.
