Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Groom to join our team at Charles River Equestrian. This full-time position is essential to maintaining the high standards of care and presentation for our horses and facility. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, a genuine love for horses, and a meticulous approach to stable management. You will be responsible for the daily care, feeding, and grooming of several horses, ensuring their comfort, health, and cleanliness. This role requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team dedicated to equine welfare.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily feeding and watering according to established schedules and dietary requirements.
- Muck stalls, ensuring a clean and hygienic environment for horses.
- Turn out and bring in horses safely, ensuring proper blanketing and leg protection as needed.
- Groom horses thoroughly, including brushing, bathing, mane and tail care.
- Monitor horses for any signs of injury, illness, or changes in behavior and report immediately to management.
- Administer basic first aid and medications as directed by veterinary staff or management.
- Clean and maintain tack, including saddles, bridles, and grooming equipment.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the barn, feed room, and tack room.
- Assist with loading and unloading horses for transport, if necessary.
- Support riders and trainers during lessons and competitions as required.
- Perform general facility maintenance tasks, such as sweeping, tidying, and organizing equipment.
Required Skills
- Proven experience with horse handling and care (minimum 1 year).
- Strong understanding of equine behavior and safety protocols.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for long periods.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Effective communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with a variety of horse breeds and disciplines.
- Knowledge of basic equine first aid and veterinary care.
- Experience driving a horse trailer (not required, but a plus).
- Valid driver's license.
