Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Heavy Rigging Supervisor to lead complex lifting operations on our significant construction and engineering projects in Brighton. This role requires an individual with exceptional leadership, technical expertise in rigging, and an unwavering commitment to safety. You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of heavy lifting, from planning and execution to risk assessment and team management. Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise all heavy rigging and lifting operations on site.
  • Develop and implement safe lifting plans and risk assessments in accordance with company policies and industry regulations.
  • Inspect rigging equipment, cranes, and lifting gear to ensure compliance with safety standards and operational readiness.
  • Lead and mentor rigging teams, fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other supervisors to ensure seamless integration of lifting activities into overall project timelines.
  • Monitor progress, identify potential issues, and implement corrective actions to maintain project schedules.
  • Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings to ensure all personnel are aware of lifting procedures and potential hazards.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment inspections, lifting operations, and incident reports.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Heavy Rigging Supervisor or a similar senior rigging role.
  • In-depth knowledge of heavy lifting equipment, rigging techniques, and load calculations.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety regulations pertinent to lifting operations (e.g., LOLER, PUWER).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, lift plans, and technical specifications.
  • Proficiency in conducting risk assessments and developing safe systems of work.
  • Valid rigging certifications (e.g., NVQ Level 3 in Controlling Lifting Operations or equivalent).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Formal qualification in a relevant engineering or construction discipline.
  • Experience with diverse project types (e.g., civil infrastructure, commercial builds, industrial installations).
  • Advanced first aid or emergency response certification.
  • Experience working on international projects or with diverse international teams.
  • Proficiency in project management software.
