Job Description
Are you a passionate and aspiring fashion enthusiast eager to gain hands-on experience in the apparel industry? Next Retail plc is seeking a motivated Fashion Design & Product Development Intern to join our innovative team in Blackpool. This entry-level internship offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the full product lifecycle, from initial concept and design to final production. You will work closely with experienced designers, merchandisers, and product developers, contributing to the creation of future collections. This role is perfect for someone looking to launch their career in fashion, providing comprehensive training and practical exposure to real-world design challenges and processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the design team with research into current and upcoming fashion trends, fabrics, and trims.
- Support in creating mood boards, concept presentations, and initial design sketches.
- Aid in the development of technical packs, including specifications for garment construction and details.
- Participate in fitting sessions, taking notes and contributing to problem-solving.
- Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers under supervision to ensure product quality and adherence to timelines.
- Organize and maintain the design studio, fabric library, and sample archives.
- Help prepare for design reviews and collection launches.
- Perform administrative tasks as needed to support the overall product development process.
Required Skills
- Strong passion for fashion design and product development.
- Basic understanding of fashion trends, garment construction, and textiles.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop) is a plus, but not required; training will be provided.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proactive attitude and willingness to learn.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a fashion design, textile, or related program.
- Portfolio showcasing design concepts, sketches, or creative projects (academic or personal).
