Job Description

Join NHS Grampian as a Hospice & Palliative Care Nurse, where you will provide compassionate, person-centred care to patients and their families facing life-limiting illnesses. This vital role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for patients in hospice and community settings. We are dedicated to supporting our team members, including offering sponsorship to eligible international nurses seeking to build a career in Scotland. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, focusing on enhancing quality of life, managing symptoms, and providing emotional and psychological support. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments, develop and implement individualised care plans for patients with life-limiting illnesses.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
  • Monitor and manage symptoms effectively, collaborating with medical staff to adjust care as needed.
  • Provide emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and their families, respecting their beliefs and values.
  • Educate patients and families on disease progression, symptom management, and end-of-life care options.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, including doctors, social workers, therapists, and spiritual care providers.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in accordance with professional and organisational standards.
  • Participate in continuing professional development and training relevant to palliative care nursing.

Required Skills

  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) or eligibility for NMC registration with relevant experience for sponsorship.
  • Minimum of 2 years post-registration nursing experience, preferably in a hospital or community setting.
  • Demonstrable experience in patient assessment, care planning, and symptom management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to empathise and build rapport.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and patient advocacy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in hospice, palliative care, oncology, or chronic disease management.
  • Post-basic qualification in palliative care or a related field.
  • Experience working with diverse patient populations.
  • Knowledge of UK healthcare systems and regulations.
