Job Description

Volunteers of America North Louisiana is seeking dedicated and compassionate individuals to join our team as Autism Support Workers. Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct support and care to individuals with autism in various settings, including homes and community environments.
- Implement individualized support plans and behavioral strategies under the guidance of case managers and supervisors.
- Assist individuals with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, and household tasks.
- Facilitate community integration through participation in recreational activities, social outings, and skill-building exercises.
- Promote independence and develop essential life skills, such as communication, social interaction, and problem-solving.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services provided, progress, and any incidents.
- Collaborate effectively with families, guardians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care.
- Ensure a safe, supportive, and stimulating environment for the individuals you support.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and drug screen
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Exceptional patience, empathy, and compassion
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new situations and strategies
- Physical ability to assist with mobility and participate in various activities as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience (volunteer or paid) working with individuals with disabilities or in a caregiving role
- CPR and First Aid certification (training can be provided)
- Some college coursework in a related field (e.g., psychology, social work, education)
