Job Description

We are seeking highly skilled and compassionate ICU / Critical Care Nurses to join our intensive care units. This is an exceptional opportunity for nurses looking to advance their careers in a leading academic medical centre. As an ICU Nurse, you will provide specialized care to critically ill patients, utilizing advanced monitoring and life-sustaining equipment, while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the best possible patient outcomes. This role demands critical thinking, excellent communication, and a commitment to patient advocacy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for critically ill patients in the ICU.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, monitoring for adverse reactions.
  • Operate and maintain specialized medical equipment, including ventilators, IV pumps, and cardiac monitors.
  • Monitor vital signs, interpret lab results, and recognize changes in patient condition, escalating concerns as needed.
  • Collaborate with physicians, residents, and other healthcare professionals to develop and adjust patient care plans.
  • Educate patients and their families about conditions, treatments, and recovery processes.
  • Document patient status, interventions, and outcomes accurately and timely in electronic health records.
  • Participate in emergency response and resuscitation efforts as required.
  • Maintain a sterile environment and adhere to infection control protocols.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and training to stay current with critical care best practices.

Required Skills

  • Valid license as a Registered Nurse in Quebec (or eligibility for licensure)
  • Minimum 2 years of recent experience in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or Critical Care setting.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Proficiency in critical care assessment, intervention, and monitoring techniques.
  • Strong clinical judgment and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Compassion and empathy for patients and their families.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Specialty certification in Critical Care Nursing (e.g., CNCC(C)).
  • Experience with electronic health record systems specific to critical care.
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is a significant asset.
