Job Description
Join the Santa Ana Unified School District as a Library Technician and become an essential part of our educational mission. This full-time, term-time position focuses on supporting the daily operations of a school library, ensuring students and faculty have seamless access to resources and a welcoming environment for learning and discovery. You will play a pivotal role in maintaining our library collection, assisting patrons, and promoting literacy within our school community. This on-site role is ideal for an organized and personable individual passionate about education and libraries.
Key Responsibilities
- Organize, catalog, and process new library materials including books, periodicals, and audiovisual resources.
- Assist students and teachers in locating and utilizing a wide range of library resources for research and leisure reading.
- Manage the circulation desk, including checking materials in and out, managing renewals, and handling overdue notices.
- Maintain a neat, orderly, and inviting library environment, ensuring shelves are well-organized and materials are accessible.
- Operate and maintain library management software for inventory tracking, patron records, and resource availability.
- Support library programs and events, such as book fairs, reading initiatives, and instructional sessions.
- Perform minor repairs on damaged library materials and prepare items for binding or discard when necessary.
- Provide basic technical assistance for library equipment (e.g., computers, printers) and digital resources.
- Assist with administrative tasks as required to ensure smooth library operations.
Required Skills
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, particularly with children and adolescents.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) and a willingness to learn library-specific software.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as a collaborative team member.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree or higher in Library Science, Education, or a related field.
- One year of experience working in a library, educational institution, or administrative support setting.
- Familiarity with K-12 school library operations and educational technology.
