Job Description

Join the Halifax Port Authority as a Maritime & Shipping Operations Intern and gain hands-on experience in the dynamic world of port management and international shipping. This entry-level internship is designed for individuals eager to learn the foundational aspects of port operations, logistics, and maritime trade. You will be exposed to various departments, understanding the intricacies of vessel movements, cargo handling, safety regulations, and environmental stewardship within a busy commercial port environment. Full training will be provided to ensure your success and growth in this vital industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily operational tasks related to vessel movements and cargo management.
  • Support the coordination of logistics for incoming and outgoing shipments.
  • Learn and apply port safety and security protocols.
  • Participate in data collection and analysis related to port traffic and efficiency.
  • Shadow experienced professionals in various departments, including operations, planning, and environmental services.
  • Contribute to projects aimed at improving operational processes and sustainability.
  • Document procedures and compile reports as required.

Required Skills

  • Strong interest in the maritime industry, logistics, or international trade.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

  • Proactive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant post-secondary program (e.g., Business, Logistics, Maritime Studies, Environmental Science).
