Job Description
We are seeking a highly analytical and innovative Mathematician to join our dynamic team in Edinburgh. In this role, you will apply advanced mathematical principles and quantitative techniques to solve complex financial problems, develop sophisticated models, and interpret large datasets. You will be instrumental in enhancing our risk management frameworks, optimizing financial products, and contributing to strategic initiatives across the group. This position requires a strong theoretical background combined with practical application skills to translate complex mathematical concepts into actionable business insights.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, validate, and implement quantitative models for risk assessment, pricing, and financial forecasting.
- Conduct in-depth analysis of financial data, identifying trends, patterns, and potential risks.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including risk managers, traders, and IT specialists, to integrate mathematical models into operational systems.
- Research and apply cutting-edge mathematical and statistical techniques to solve novel problems.
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations summarizing complex analytical findings for diverse audiences.
- Ensure models comply with regulatory standards and internal policies.
- Provide expert advice and support on mathematical methodologies to various business units.
Required Skills
- Strong foundational knowledge in advanced mathematics, including calculus, linear algebra, probability, and statistics.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language commonly used in quantitative finance (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB).
- Experience with statistical modeling and data analysis techniques.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically.
- Strong communication skills, capable of explaining complex quantitative concepts clearly.
- A Bachelor's degree or higher in Mathematics, Quantitative Finance, Statistics, or a related highly quantitative field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's or Ph.D. in a quantitative discipline.
- Experience with financial derivatives, econometrics, or actuarial science.
- Familiarity with large datasets and database management tools (e.g., SQL).
- Previous experience in the financial services industry, particularly in risk management or quantitative analysis roles.
