Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Mechanical Engineering Technician to join our plant operations team in Mount Gambier. This role is crucial for ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our industrial processes through expert mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair. You will be instrumental in supporting our production goals, maintaining equipment reliability, and upholding the highest safety standards within our dynamic plant environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on plant machinery and equipment, including pumps, conveyors, gearboxes, and piping systems.
- Diagnose mechanical faults and execute timely repairs to minimize downtime and ensure operational continuity.
- Assist in the installation, commissioning, and decommissioning of new and existing mechanical plant equipment.
- Conduct regular inspections and identify potential issues, recommending and implementing corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and spare parts inventory.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, environmental regulations, and company policies.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and other maintenance teams to optimize plant performance and resolve technical challenges.
- Participate in root cause analysis for equipment failures and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Technician or similar role in an industrial or plant environment.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and rotating equipment.
- Proficiency in using a variety of hand and power tools, as well as diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and maintenance manuals.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Commitment to safety and adherence to all workplace safety procedures.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Trade qualification in Mechanical Fitter, Diesel Mechanic, or equivalent.
- Certificate III or IV in Engineering – Mechanical Trade or related field.
- Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Forklift license and/or Elevated Work Platform (EWP) ticket.
- Confined Space and Working at Heights certifications.
