Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Media Monitor to join our team, focusing on government-related information tracking. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for systematically monitoring traditional and digital media channels to identify, track, and report on news and discussions relevant to government policy, public perception, and operational activities. You will play a vital part in providing timely and accurate intelligence that supports informed decision-making for our clients in the public sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily monitoring of national and international news sources, social media, and other public platforms for relevant government-related content.
  • Identify key themes, emerging issues, public sentiment, and stakeholder commentary pertinent to government departments and policy areas.
  • Synthesize complex information into concise, accurate, and timely media summaries, reports, and alerts.
  • Utilize advanced media monitoring tools and platforms to efficiently track and analyse information.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of media coverage and prepare trend analysis reports.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and clients to understand their information needs and deliver tailored insights.
  • Ensure compliance with all data privacy and security protocols, especially when handling sensitive government information.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, with a capacity for concise reporting.
  • Proficiency with media monitoring software and data analysis tools, or a strong aptitude to learn quickly.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Australian political landscape, government processes, and media environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Australian Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Government security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Political Science, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • Previous experience (1+ years) in a media monitoring, research, or government relations role.
  • Familiarity with government communication strategies and public policy development.
  • Experience working with or within Australian government agencies.
