Job Description
Western Health is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Allied Health Interns to join our dynamic team in Laverton. This internship offers a unique opportunity for aspiring healthcare professionals to gain practical, hands-on experience in a supportive clinical environment. You will work alongside experienced allied health professionals, learning various facets of patient care, assessment, and intervention within a community health setting. This entry-level position is designed to provide comprehensive training and exposure to a diverse range of conditions and patient demographics, setting a strong foundation for your future career in allied health. No prior professional experience is required; full training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Shadow and observe experienced allied health professionals (e.g., physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, dietitians) during patient consultations and treatments.
- Assist with patient intake, preparation, and administrative tasks as directed by supervising staff.
- Learn and apply basic clinical assessment techniques under direct supervision.
- Participate in team meetings and case conferences to understand multidisciplinary approaches to care.
- Contribute to the maintenance of a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff.
- Document observations and assist with record-keeping in accordance with Western Health policies and procedures.
- Engage actively in learning opportunities, asking questions, and seeking feedback to enhance professional development.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an accredited Allied Health degree program (e.g., Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, Dietetics, Podiatry).
- Strong passion for healthcare and a genuine interest in allied health professions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- High level of empathy, compassion, and professionalism.
- Eagerness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced clinical setting.
- Basic computer literacy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous volunteer experience in a healthcare or community service setting.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Demonstrated understanding of patient privacy and confidentiality (Australian Privacy Principles).
