Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Medical Technologist to join our dynamic team in Belfast. Key Responsibilities
- Perform complex medical laboratory tests and procedures on patient samples, including blood, urine, and other bodily fluids, in areas such as chemistry, haematology, microbiology, and immunology.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments, troubleshooting issues as they arise.
- Analyze test results, interpret data, and report findings accurately and efficiently, identifying any abnormalities or discrepancies.
- Implement and adhere to strict quality control and quality assurance protocols to ensure accuracy and reliability of all tests.
- Maintain detailed and organized records of all tests performed, results, and quality control data.
- Comply with all laboratory safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Participate in the evaluation and implementation of new laboratory methodologies and technologies.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including pathologists and clinicians, to provide comprehensive patient care.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related scientific field.
- Current certification as a Medical Technologist (e.g., ASCP MLS, IBMS registration, or equivalent).
- Minimum of 2 years of practical experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
- Proficiency in performing a wide range of laboratory tests and operating analytical equipment.
- Strong understanding of laboratory quality control and assurance principles.
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant scientific discipline.
- Experience with LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems).
- Specialized experience in molecular diagnostics or a specific pathology area.
- Familiarity with UKAS or ISO 15189 accreditation standards.
