Job Description

We are seeking a qualified and meticulous Notary Public to join our busy legal team in Portsmouth. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a comprehensive range of notarial services, including authenticating documents, witnessing signatures, administering oaths, and certifying copies for both domestic and international use. This role requires a high degree of accuracy, discretion, and a thorough understanding of notarial law and procedures. You will be instrumental in supporting our clients through important legal transactions, ensuring all documentation meets stringent legal requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer oaths and affirmations.
  • Witness and attest to signatures on legal documents.
  • Certify copies of documents as true copies of the original.
  • Prepare and authenticate various international documents, including powers of attorney and affidavits.
  • Maintain accurate records of all notarial acts in accordance with legal requirements.
  • Advise clients on the legal requirements for notarization for different jurisdictions.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant notarial laws, regulations, and professional standards.
  • Manage client appointments and correspondence effectively.

Required Skills

  • Qualified Notary Public with current practicing certificate in England & Wales.
  • Excellent understanding of notarial law and procedures.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of integrity and professional discretion.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with international legal documentation and conventions (e.g., Apostille).
  • Ability to speak a second language is highly advantageous.
  • Experience working in a busy legal practice environment.
  • Membership of The Notaries Society or similar professional body.
