Job Description
An exciting entry-level opportunity for a passionate individual to join our garden team as a Nursery Assistant at our Fremantle store. No prior experience is required, as full training will be provided. We are looking for someone with a genuine interest in plants and a willingness to learn how to care for them, assist customers, and maintain our vibrant nursery environment. This role is perfect for someone looking to start a career in horticulture or gain valuable retail experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist customers with plant selection and provide basic care advice.
- Water, fertilise, and prune plants as required to ensure their health and vitality.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organisation of the nursery area, including shelving, pathways, and displays.
- Unload and accurately display new plant stock, ensuring proper labelling and pricing.
- Monitor plant health, identify common pests or diseases, and report any issues to supervisors.
- Assist with merchandising efforts to create attractive and engaging plant displays.
- Operate point-of-sale systems during peak periods (full training provided).
- Adhere to all safety procedures and guidelines within the nursery environment.
Required Skills
- A genuine interest in plants, gardening, and horticulture.
- Excellent customer service skills with a friendly and approachable demeanour.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and interpersonal.
- Physical fitness and stamina for tasks involving lifting, bending, carrying, and standing for extended periods.
- A proactive attitude with a willingness to learn new skills and take initiative.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of common plant types (e.g., house plants, outdoor plants, herbs) is a bonus, but not essential.
- Previous experience in a retail or customer-facing role will be highly regarded, though not mandatory for this entry-level position.
- Enthusiasm for outdoor work and comfort with various weather conditions.
