Job Description
Cargill’s Portland facility is looking for dedicated and safety-conscious individuals to join our team as Silo Operator Assistants for seasonal work. In this crucial role, you will support our grain handling operations, ensuring efficient and safe movement, storage, and processing of agricultural commodities. This is an on-site, hands-on position that provides an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a vital industry. Full training will be provided to ensure you are confident and capable in your responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the loading and unloading of grain from trucks, railcars, and barges.
- Monitor grain levels within silos and bins, reporting discrepancies.
- Perform general housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and safe work environment, including sweeping and shoveling.
- Operate basic equipment under supervision, such as scales and sampling devices.
- Conduct visual inspections of equipment and facilities, reporting any maintenance needs.
- Adhere strictly to all safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure smooth operations.
- Participate in safety meetings and training sessions.
Required Skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, climbing, and working in various weather conditions.
- Basic communication skills (reading, writing, and speaking English).
- Reliable transportation to and from the worksite.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in an industrial, agricultural, or manufacturing setting.
- Experience operating basic machinery or tools.
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain one.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
