Job Description
Are you ready to dive into a rewarding and hands-on career? Water Street Seafood Company is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our team as an Oyster Farm Assistant. This is a unique opportunity to work outdoors in the beautiful Apalachicola Bay, learning the intricate process of sustainable oyster farming from experts. We provide all necessary gear, including waders, and offer a high hourly rate for your hard work and commitment. No prior experience is necessary; we provide comprehensive training to ensure your success. Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the deployment, maintenance, and harvesting of oyster aquaculture gear (e.g., cages, bags, rafts).
- Perform routine cleaning and upkeep of farm equipment and facilities.
- Sort, grade, and prepare oysters for market, adhering to quality standards.
- Operate small boats and other farm machinery safely and efficiently (training provided).
- Monitor water quality and environmental conditions as directed.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations at all times.
- Work collaboratively with the farm team to achieve daily production goals.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions (sun, rain, heat, cold).
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Willingness to learn and follow instructions.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in outdoor labor, farming, or marine environments is a plus, but not required.
- Basic understanding of marine life or aquaculture principles.
