Job Description

The Global Peace Initiative Institute is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Peacebuilding & Conflict Resolution Intern to join our dynamic team in Colchester, Essex. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in the field of international relations, peacebuilding, and conflict analysis within a renowned think tank environment. The intern will support various research projects, policy development, and programmatic activities aimed at understanding and mitigating conflict, and promoting sustainable peace globally. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about contributing to a more peaceful world and looking to develop their research and analytical skills. Full training and mentorship will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting literature reviews and background research on specific conflict zones, peacebuilding strategies, and international policies.
  • Assisting in the drafting of research reports, policy briefs, and advocacy materials.
  • Collecting and analyzing data related to conflict trends, peace indicators, and humanitarian crises.
  • Supporting the organization and coordination of workshops, seminars, and stakeholder meetings.
  • Contributing to the maintenance of research databases and resource libraries.
  • Assisting with administrative tasks as needed to support the research team.
  • Participating in team meetings and contributing to strategic discussions.

Required Skills

  • Strong interest in international relations, peacebuilding, conflict resolution, or related fields.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in research and analytical methodologies.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in International Relations, Political Science, Peace and Conflict Studies, Sociology, Anthropology, or a related discipline.
  • Familiarity with qualitative and/or quantitative research methods.
  • Knowledge of an additional language (e.g., Arabic, French, Spanish) relevant to conflict-affected regions.
  • Previous volunteer experience in a non-profit or research setting.
