Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Formulation Scientist to join our dynamic R&D team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in the development of new drug formulations, from early-stage feasibility studies through to process optimization and scale-up. This position requires a strong understanding of pharmaceutical science principles, hands-on experience with various formulation techniques, and a commitment to quality and scientific rigor. You will contribute to projects aimed at enhancing drug stability, efficacy, and patient compliance across a range of therapeutic areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, execute, and analyze experiments for the development of new pharmaceutical formulations (e.g., oral solids, liquids, injectables, topical formulations).
- Perform pre-formulation studies to characterize drug substances and excipients, informing formulation strategy.
- Utilize a range of analytical techniques (e.g., HPLC, DSC, TGA, particle sizing, rheology) to characterize formulations and assess stability.
- Document experimental procedures, results, and conclusions in detailed laboratory notebooks and technical reports.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with analytical, process development, and manufacturing teams.
- Contribute to problem-solving and troubleshooting of formulation challenges.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure compliance with GxP and safety standards.
- Stay abreast of scientific literature and advancements in pharmaceutical formulation technology.
Required Skills
- PhD or Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in pharmaceutical formulation development within an industrial setting.
- Demonstrated practical experience with various formulation techniques (e.g., wet granulation, dry granulation, direct compression, lyophilization, emulsion/suspension preparation).
- Proficiency in pharmaceutical analytical techniques for formulation characterization and stability testing.
- Strong understanding of cGMP principles and quality by design (QbD) concepts.
- Excellent experimental design, data analysis, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with sterile product formulation or sustained-release technologies.
- Familiarity with statistical design of experiments (DoE) software.
- Experience in tech transfer activities from R&D to manufacturing.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements for pharmaceutical development.
