Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Prototype Developer with a strong engineering focus to join our dynamic R&D team in Werribee. In this role, you will be instrumental in bringing innovative concepts to life, from initial ideation through to functional prototypes. You will work closely with design, engineering, and manufacturing teams to develop and refine prototype systems, ensuring they meet rigorous performance and quality standards. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who thrives on hands-on problem-solving and has a deep understanding of engineering principles in a fast-paced development environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and build functional prototypes for new vehicle features, components, and systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (design, electrical, mechanical, software) to translate concepts into tangible prototypes.
  • Conduct testing and validation of prototypes, analyzing results and iterating designs based on feedback and performance data.
  • Source and manage materials, tools, and equipment required for prototype construction.
  • Document prototype development processes, specifications, and test results thoroughly.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and prototyping methodologies to continuously improve development practices.
  • Ensure all prototypes adhere to safety standards and engineering best practices.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA).
  • Strong hands-on fabrication skills (machining, welding, 3D printing, electronics assembly).
  • Experience with various rapid prototyping techniques.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical and/or electrical engineering principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Experience in the automotive industry or with vehicle systems.
  • Knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Python, C++) for control systems or data acquisition.
  • Familiarity with simulation and modeling tools.
  • Experience with embedded systems and sensor integration.
