Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Psychiatric / Mental Health Nurse to join our team in New Braunfels, TX. As a Psychiatric / Mental Health Nurse, you will provide specialized care to patients experiencing a wide range of mental health conditions, from anxiety and depression to severe psychiatric disorders. You will play a critical role in patient assessment, treatment planning, medication management, and therapeutic interventions, working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to promote mental wellness and recovery. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments, including mental status exams and risk assessments.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans in collaboration with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
- Administer and monitor psychotropic medications, observing for therapeutic effects and adverse reactions.
- Provide therapeutic interventions, including crisis intervention, de-escalation techniques, and psychoeducation.
- Educate patients and families on mental health conditions, coping strategies, and medication management.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care activities and responses.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in treatment team meetings and contribute to discharge planning.
- Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment for all patients.
Required Skills
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Texas (or eligibility for licensure by endorsement).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in psychiatric or mental health nursing.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Empathy, compassion, and a non-judgmental approach to patient care.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Certification (PMH-BC).
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Previous experience in an acute care psychiatric setting or inpatient mental health unit.
