Job Description
Join the dedicated team at the City of Mount Gambier Council as a Public Pool Attendant, specializing in Lifeguarding and Safety. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of all patrons using our aquatic facilities. You will perform active surveillance, respond to emergencies, provide first aid, and maintain a safe and clean pool environment. This position requires vigilance, excellent communication skills, and a steadfast commitment to public safety and outstanding customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform constant, vigilant surveillance of pool areas to prevent accidents and identify potential hazards.
- Enforce all pool rules and regulations fairly, consistently, and respectfully.
- Respond immediately and effectively to aquatic emergencies, administering CPR, first aid, and oxygen as required.
- Assist with the daily maintenance and cleanliness of the pool area, equipment, change rooms, and other facility amenities.
- Provide excellent customer service, warmly greeting patrons, answering questions, and assisting with facility needs.
- Conduct regular safety checks of equipment and facilities, promptly reporting any hazards or maintenance issues.
- Participate actively in regular in-service training sessions and maintain all required certifications.
- Complete incident reports accurately and thoroughly as necessary.
Required Skills
- Current Royal Life Saving Society of Australia Bronze Medallion or equivalent.
- Current First Aid and CPR certificates.
- Strong observational and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent customer service abilities with a positive attitude.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to remain calm and effective in emergency situations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Pool Lifeguard Award (Royal Life Saving Society of Australia).
- Previous experience working in a public aquatic facility.
- Valid Working With Children Check (WWCC).
- Certificate II or III in Community Recreation.
- Oxygen resuscitation certificate.
