Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Remote Building Permit Processor to join our Planning Department. This is a 100% remote position, allowing you to contribute to municipal operations from anywhere in Manitoba. You will be responsible for reviewing, processing, and tracking building permit applications, ensuring compliance with local bylaws, provincial codes, and municipal regulations. This role requires strong organizational skills, excellent communication, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive and review building permit applications for completeness and accuracy via digital platforms.
  • Verify that applications comply with the City of Brandon's zoning bylaws, building codes, and other relevant municipal regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with applicants, contractors, and other city departments to clarify information and resolve discrepancies.
  • Process permit payments and maintain accurate records of all applications and approvals.
  • Coordinate with Building Inspectors and other departmental staff as needed to facilitate the permit review process.
  • Prepare and issue permits upon approval, ensuring all necessary documentation is included.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and respond to inquiries regarding permit requirements and application status.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of permit processing workflows and digital tools.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of administrative experience, preferably in a municipal or regulatory environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and document review.
  • Proficiency in using office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) and digital permit processing systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret and apply regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively in a remote setting.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in urban planning, public administration, office administration, or a related field.
  • Direct experience with building permit processing or municipal planning within a Canadian context.
  • Familiarity with the Manitoba Building Code and local government structures.
  • Experience with Accela or similar permit management software.
