Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Respiratory Nurse to join our compassionate team in Witney, Oxfordshire. This vital role involves providing expert nursing care to patients with various respiratory conditions, ensuring high standards of clinical practice and patient well-being. The successful candidate will be instrumental in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for individuals with both acute and chronic respiratory illnesses, contributing significantly to their quality of life and recovery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive respiratory assessments, including lung function tests and oxygen saturation monitoring.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualised care plans for patients with respiratory conditions such as asthma, COPD, cystic fibrosis, and pneumonia.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments, including nebulisers, inhalers, and oxygen therapy.
  • Provide education and support to patients and their families regarding their condition, treatment regimens, and self-management strategies.
  • Monitor patient progress, recognise changes in their condition, and escalate concerns to medical staff as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including consultants, physiotherapists, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure holistic patient care.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in line with professional and organisational guidelines.
  • Participate in ward meetings, training sessions, and continuous professional development activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations and infection control policies.

Required Skills

  • Current NMC registration (Registered Nurse – Adult)
  • Minimum of 2 years post-registration experience, with at least 1 year in a respiratory care setting.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of common respiratory conditions and their management.
  • Proficiency in administering respiratory therapies and medications.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong clinical assessment and decision-making abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-registration qualification or specialist course in respiratory nursing.
  • Experience with spirometry and other diagnostic respiratory procedures.
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification.
  • Experience in patient education and counselling for chronic respiratory diseases.
