Job Description
Are you looking for a stable career with excellent training and opportunities for growth? Rumpke Waste & Recycling is seeking motivated individuals to join our team as a Sanitation Truck Driver Trainee in Louisville, KY. No prior experience operating heavy vehicles is required! We offer comprehensive, paid training to help you obtain your Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) license. This is a fantastic entry-level opportunity to start a rewarding career in an essential industry. You will learn the ropes of waste collection, safety protocols, and truck operation from experienced professionals, all while earning a competitive wage.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate actively in all phases of the paid CDL/HGV training program.
- Learn and adhere to all safety policies and procedures for operating sanitation vehicles.
- Observe and assist experienced drivers on residential and commercial collection routes.
- Understand proper methods for collecting and disposing of waste and recyclables.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles under supervision.
- Maintain a clean driving record throughout the training period.
- Attend classroom and hands-on training sessions as required.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to punctuality and attendance.
- Develop a thorough understanding of federal, state, and local transportation regulations.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and the public.
Required Skills
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical.
- Ability to pass a background check.
- Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
- Willingness to learn and commit to a comprehensive training program.
- Ability to perform physical duties, including lifting, bending, and climbing.
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Basic mechanical aptitude or familiarity with vehicle maintenance.
- Previous experience in a physically demanding role.
